Maldives’ best kept secret

With its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, Maldives is seen by many as the ultimate paradise destination.

Yet for the estimated 200,000 migrant workers living in the country, this can be far from the reality.

Travelling – or trafficked – from countries such as Bangladesh and India, many of Maldives’ migrant workers are forced to live and work in unimaginable conditions. Like in so many countries, corruption and exploitation go hand in hand.

Few report their experiences alone. Those who do risk threats and intimidation.  But with support and guidance from , things are beginning to change.
